COMMUNITY SERVICE:

Performances are given by our students at area Senior Citizens' resident homes.

CONTESTS:

Students are given the opportunity to compete in various contests throughout the Greater New Orleans area, some held at local universities.  LAAPAFEST is LAAPA's own annual festival during which all students who have studied their instruments for a minimum of one  year may perform a selection in front of a panel of three judges, receive ratings and comments from each judge, and possibly be selected to perform in the annual Honor's Concert.  Contest participation is voluntary and information may be obtained through the individual instructor.

FINANCIAL AID:

Scholarship programs are available to those students qualifying for financial assistance.  For additional information, please contact the School Office.

RATING SCALES:

A rating system is used by all instructors to assess weekly lesson performance.  Ratings are recorded in students' assignment books as well as the instructor's records.  Students' names are posted in the school for the month in which they receive three consecutive "Superior" ratings.

The purpose is twofold:  1)  strong positive motivation for students' improved performance, and 2)  weekly communication between parents and teacher regarding progress and expectations.  Ratings also serve as an aid in determining yearly recital awards.  Each student and parent is given a detailed explanation of the standards required to receive the highest ratings.  Ratings are optional, however, should their use affect the joy, enthusiasm, and love of the music.
