The
Music Theory Program
is offered apart from our weekly general theory group classes for
those students who wish to intensively study only music theory. The
class is open to students (ages 13-up) at all levels and consists of a
30, 45, or 60 minute private lesson each week. These lessons will include a
variety of music theory/notation practices including the basics, form
analysis, chord/scale nomenclature, Italian terms, functional harmony,
and an introduction to basic composition. Students may elect to study
either traditional (classical theory) or jazz theory, but a firm grasp
of classical theory is required before beginning jazz theory. As
students progress, they may elect to pursue further studies in the
Composition Program.
The
Composition Program
(ages 13-adult) allows students to study in a weekly 30, 45, or 60 minute or full hour private
lesson. Students are encouraged to write in various styles in
addition to classical. Classes focus on creating melodies,
arranging/orchestration techniques, in addition to a review of general
music theory/notation practices. Students are expected to learn to
write by hand (traditional paper and pencil) in addition to using the
latest in computer notation software and other computer based
technologies.
Our Composition/Piano program includes a 30, 45, or 60 minute lesson
weekly and is the recommended composition program for younger
beginners and those without any prior musical training. Classes
focus on the development of fundamental composition and keyboard
skills.
