Choice of Private or Small Group Classes

At LAAPA, our goal is to ensure that each student receives the highest quality training possible at each lesson. This is why all of our classes are private or small group classes.

Music students have the option to enroll in either private or group lessons in their program of choice. Group music lessons work well for students of similar ages and levels who are interested in learning together. Private music lessons are the most popular format at LAAPA as our instructors are free to tailor the lesson plan each week to the needs and goals of the individual student.

All of our dance classes are kept small with a maximum of 12 students in all of our other classes.

University Degreed Faculty & Professional Educators

There are many musicians and dance artists who have extraordinary degrees and performance credentials who also teach students when they are not busy performing. While many of these performers are excellent teachers, since teaching is not their main priority, the student can suffer. It should be noted that it takes additional experience and highly refined skills to be an effective educator.

While, all of our music faculty members hold a Bachelor of Music degree or higher and our dance faculty hold professional certifications and/or B.F.A. degrees, they all additionally have substantial experience with teaching students at a variety of ages and levels. They come to us with only the highest recommendations from other students and parents.

Effective Communication between Students/Parents and Instructors

A successful learning experience in the performing arts just as in any area begins with the ability of the instructor to clearly and effectively communicate with the student (and parents for younger students). There is nothing more frustrating when trying to learn something new than being unable to clearly communicate with or understand the instructor. At LAAPA, our faculty members are true professional educators who are able to ensure that each lesson is conducted with age appropriate explanations and vocabulary. A weekly assignment notebook provides additional communication from the instructor (for music classes) and serves as a reminder of which areas the student should focus on during home practice sessions.

Styles of Instruction

At LAAPA, we realize that not every student is interested in the same style of music or dance which is why our instructors are able to teach in many different styles. We teach the styles of music and dance that are of interest to the student. Whether the interest is classical, rock, jazz, blues, ballet, hip-hop, etc., we're happy to help each student meets his/her goals.
