LAAPA Press Release - 12/21/2010

Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts’ Covington and Mandeville Schools of Music held its 5 Christmas concerts on Saturday, December 18 at 9AM, 11AM, 1PM, 3PM, and 5PM at the Fuhrmann Auditorium, 317 N. Jefferson Ave. Covington, LA 70433.

The River Ridge School of Music & Dance held its 4 concerts on Sunday, December 19 at 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 6PM at Nunemaker Auditorium on the campus of Loyola University New Orleans.

Concerts featured students in piano, vocal, guitar, wind, brass, percussion, strings, the LAAPA Jazz Ensemble, Kehoe France Northshore Concert Band, and the LAAPA CHORUS.

Each year our Christmas Concerts support a South Texas Mission in Batesville, TX run by the Teresian Sisters.  In this way we can all celebrate the love and joy of the Christmas Season.  Our students delight in sharing their talent to help these families who have so little.  Our LAAPA Family and the community in the St. Tammany and Greater New Orleans area has been so very generous in the past, and we, the Teresian Sisters and the families they support continue to be so grateful.  In addition to wrapped gifts, this year we have been asked by the Mission to accept donations of several “basic needs” items as mentioned below.

Admission for the program was one of the following per adult: wrapped toy for a child (indicate boy or girl and appropriate age), diapers all sizes NB through 5, baby clothes all sizes to Toddler 3, baby and adult toiletries such as soap and shampoo, winter clothes (especially jackets used and in good shape), or check in any amount made payable to Batesville Mission.

"The people they serve are the poorest of the poor in south Texas, and this is our way to bring the joy of the Christmas season to them, " says Ryan Cullen, Director of the Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts.
