This is Spencer's first year wrestling. He also won gold at the Crusader Open and Jr. Storm tournaments. In the beginning of the season, Spencer, a 7 year old 1st grader at St. Matthew the Apostle, wrestled against 9 & 10 year olds at the Greater Baton Rouge Invitational and Tiger Open and walked away with a bronze and silver. Dear Students and Parents,
Our Spring Concerts and Awards Ceremonies will be held Saturday June 8 at Fuhrmann Auditorium, 317 N. Jefferson St in Covington for the Covington and Mandeville campuses and Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Martin's Solomon Theatre 5309 Airline Dr. in Metairie for the River Ridge campus. Please keep the entire day open as we will have multiple concerts from 9 AM through 8 PM and we will not have your recital time info until very close to the recital day.

- All music students will be assigned one solo and may additionally participate in a duet or compose an original piece.
- All instrumental and vocal students (voice, guitar, strings, wind, brass, etc) will require accompanists. The
accompanist fee is $30 and will provide students with 3 mini-rehearsals with the accompanist (or their instructor within the lesson) in addition to the performance on the day of the concert.
- Mandatory rehearsals for music students provide the student with additional coaching from the Academy
Faculty and will be held Saturdays at the Covington School of Music between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on May 18, May 25, and June 1. Students must attend 2 of the 3 rehearsals. A more detailed schedule is forthcoming.
- All dance students that are not performing in the concert must inform the teacher immediately as an exact count of students performing will be necessary for the choreography.
- All dance students will purchase their own costumes. Their teacher will assign costumes at least 1 month before the concert. Cash or check is preferred. All dance students must attend all lessons from now until the concert. If students miss more than two lessons from now until the concert they will not be able to perform. Rehearsal for dance students will be held the week before the recital. Dance students should come in full
costume the week of June 10 for dress rehearsal held at The River Ridge School of Music and Dance.
Finally, all dance students should arrive at the Solomon Theatre 30 min prior to their performance time to allow for stage blocking.
Many trophies will be awarded at each program. Ask your individual instructor about our categories and how trophies are earned. Trophies and other awards will be awarded based on students' weekly performance and effort at lessons with the exception of the Original Composition trophy and
Festival awards. Recital Tickets for General Admission may be pre-ordered for $7.00 ea. at the Front Desk or by completing the form below. After
May 7, tickets will be available for $10.00 ea. at the Front Desk or at the door the day of the Concert. Two complimentary recital tickets (per family) are available for students and/or parents to pick up at the Front Desk.

Student Shout Outs!

"I've been taken guitar lessons since this past January and l love both Josh and the lessons he provides! I've always had a passion for the guitar and wanted to learn since I was a young child, but back then never got around to actually picking up a guitar and learning it. Then finally after a couple decades, and now at the age of 39, I tapped into my savings and bought the guitar I always wanted. Just when I was about to attempt learning the guitar on my own, a friend told me about Laapa. I was nervous (well was more like awkward feeling) about the whole private instructor thing, I just felt I was too old for it. But Josh makes the lessons comfortable and fun." ~ Shelly Hebert

Join us this July for SUMMER CAMP!

SUMMER CAMPS New Orleans, Mandeville, Covington, River Ridge Louisiana

How Does the Summer Work at LAAPA?

As the summer approaches, we typically receive the following questions each year.
For your convenience, we have prepared answers to the most frequently asked questions!
Q. "How do lessons work in the summer?"
A. The Academy is open year round, and we do not close during the summer.
Your lessons will continue through the summer. We additionally hold summer camps each July!
Q. "Do a lot of students stop during the summer?"
A. While a small percentage of students do take part of the summer off, June and July are strong enrollment months for new students as parents and students are eager to fill their summer schedules with lessons and our summer camps.
These students often choose to continue their lessons into the Fall.
Q. "How full is the Academy?"
A. The academy has maintained it's recent growth by over 100 students this year to 906 – the most in the history of the academy since its inception in 1978. Nearly all of the most popular lesson times of from 3 – 7 PM are now completely booked.
Q. "If we stop during the summer, can we keep our spot for Fall?"
A. If you stop lessons during the summer months, we cannot guarantee that we will have a spot for you in the Fall as your spot will be open to both new students (who begin in the summer) and current students (who may wish to change their time or increase their time).
Q. "Can I change my lesson time for the Summer or Fall?"
A. Absolutely. While most schedules remain the same through the Summer, we are more than happy to try and work out a better alternative for you whenever possible. You may call the office at any time should you find that a schedule no longer works for you and we can immediately work on finding something more suitable for you.
Students who take lessons at Kehoe-France Northshore and Stuart Hall will be called and scheduled on our campus closest to you: River Ridge, Mandeville, or Covington.
Q. "If we continue lessons through the Summer to keep our spot, how can we makeup missed lessons due to travel / vacations?"
A. LAAPA is the only school in the area that offers multiple ways to makeup time missed due to traveling WITHOUT giving up your regular lesson schedule.
Option 1.) Just give us a call as usual whenever you will be absent and sign up for one or more of our makeup classes! These makeup classes are offered YEAR ROUND and never expire. Please note that July 1-6 we will be closed for Summer Break so you won't miss any classes that week.
Option 2.) Take lessons with your teacher online via SKYPE! All you need is a WI-FI connection and a laptop, Iphone, Ipad, or android device, and you can take your lesson with your teacher anywhere in the world as all of our instructors are now outfitted with Ipads in their classrooms!
Option 3.) Sublet your spot to a friend or family member for the summer. This is always a popular option - as this way you get to keep your spot when you return AND can have someone else enjoy the lessons and your convenient schedule during the summer!

Should you have any questions about Summer Lessons, don't hesitate to contact us!
