Ready to Try Something Fun, New, & Exciting this Summer?
Have some extra free time now that school is out?

New Orleans, Metairie, Mandeville Piano and Guitar Recitals
(Pictured above, the River Ridge School of Music & Dance Rock Band, jamming out this Summer!)

Is it really Summer already? With the brief Spring we had this year, it seems even earlier than usual. Indeed, summertime is here, and the livin’ is easy! Maybe a bit too easy in some cases.

Ah, you know what I mean parents - now that the kids are home most of the day, they’ve got extra time on their hands - and energy!
Now that school is out, do your kids follow you around the house each day asking you, “What can I do?”, “What can I do now?”, “I’m bored.”?
How about getting them involved in a music or dance program guaranteed to enrich their summer and creative spirits! Whether you’re interested in our July summer camps or weekly private lessons - we have a program for you!
If your kids enjoy spontaneously bursting out into song and dance - consider our vocal, dance, and/or musical theatre programs!
Do you wake up each morning to the joyful sounds of your son or daughter endlessly pounding away at random notes on the piano? Let us show them how to make beautiful music in your home this summer!
Is your child driving you crazy beating on the kitchen pots and pans? How about drum lessons instead? Guaranteed to put all of that energy to good use! We can also recommend some excellent silent drum sets like we have at our schools for a peaceful and happy home!
Already taking a program with LAAPA? The summer is an excellent time to add a program or increase your weekly lesson time.
And don’t forget that this July we will be holding three exciting weeks of summer music and dance camps held at our Mandeville School of Music and River Ridge School of Music & Dance. These camps are especially wonderful for exploring new programs of interest for beginning and current students.
Speaking of our summer camps, each year I often find myself thinking back thirty years ago when I was a student enrolled in camp. My favorite part was snack time (I’d be lying if I said otherwise), but being able to learn about and try so many different instruments and being able to perform with other students on a daily basis was really a great time in my life. And I know that my mother enjoyed having some peace at home for a little while each day!
Whatever you do this summer - don’t just sit around - be creative and enjoy doing something new!

We are so extremely grateful to you our students and parents who continue to refer us to your friends, colleagues, and
associates day after day, month after month, etc. Your referrals are the highest compliment we can receive here at LAAPA, and we wanted to do something extraordinary for our current and former students who continue to refer the Academy to new students.
March through May 29, 2014, if you referred a new student to the Academy and they enrolled, you AND your friend were automatically entered in our DOUBLE iPad Mini raffle!
Sound too good to be true?- You can watch school director Ryan Cullen's trip to Best Buy where he personally picked up the iPad minis (above)!

Covington School of Music student, Peter Mora, has an idea for a new security system that he recently shared with us. He says, “When someone comes to the door, they need to play the right tune on the keyboard. If they mess up, they fall through a trap door!” Let us all know when you have a prototype we can try out Peter!

Summer Music & Dance Camp - Now Enrolling

Register Now for Summer Music & Dance Camps at the Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts in New Orleans, LA

It's hard to believe that it ALREADY time to start making your summer activity plans! Summer will be here before you know it and so will our 2014 Summer Music & Dance Camps held this year from July 7-25 at the River Ridge School of Music & Dance and the Mandeville School of Music.

Our Summer Music Camps and Summer Dance Camps provide all campers (ages 5-16, beginning, intermediate, and advanced) with the opportunity to choose and explore up to five of our instrumental, vocal, and performing arts programs.

For Brand New Beginners with Little or No Experience...

Campers are able to explore our various programs and see what program(s) interest them!

Perhaps your child has shown an interest in music, dance, piano, singing, guitar, violin, drums (just to name a few!)? Wherever his/her interest lies, we are happy to provide a formal introduction to the programs of your choice in a structured and fun environment!

At the conclusion of each week of camp, the faculty members write a brief overview of your child's aptitude for each program/instrument which is extremely helpful in determining which program/instrument would be a good match in terms of regular classes and private lessons.

For Experienced Students...

Our camps also provide experienced students with the opportunity to try out other programs of interest or may also serve as an opportunity for concentrated study to accelerate proficiency and to generate motivation... giving new life to the student's instrument or vocal study.

All Students...

At the end of each day of camp, all students come together for performance classes which feature what they have learned that day in camp!

In order to maintain a balanced atmosphere of fun, creativity, and education, only 25 students are admitted each week.

Is your child younger than age 5? For ages birth-4, we recommend our Preschool Music Program which includes signing, singing, music & movement, percussion, and more!

Additional information including programs offered may be found on our summer camp at laapa.com/camp

Is Your Teacher Completely Booked?

As the Summer begins, many of our teachers are already nearly or totally booked! Due to demand however, we have opened several new music and dance classes. See you at the Spring Recital!

On Saturday June 14 and June 21, we’ll be listening to over 400 performances from our many talented students! This is a new record participation in our Spring concerts, and we’re so excited to be able to have so many of you joining us. Each concert will have between 43-53 performances which translates into approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes of music and dance. Immediately following each recital, our awards ceremony will begin and will last an additonal 30 minutes. Out of respect for the performers, we ask that students and audience members stay for the full duration of the program. See you on stage!

Class Openings at Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts in NOLA

Ben Hurst is in the process of building a new farm on the Northshore! “Be The Change” Permaculture Farm is a place that will provide the community with fresh produce year round. When the land is farmed around the principles of permaculture, and not conventional agriculture, the plants and the soil take care of themselves while never depleting its resources. Please help Mr. Ben fulfill his dream and contribute to his crowd funding campaign. A lot of you have been asking him when his farm will start selling produce. Here is your chance to help him so he can help you receive healthy local food! Check out his crowd funding page here: http://www.gofundme.com/bethechangepermiefarm.
