Will You Be Participating in our Spring Recital & Award Ceremony?

New Orleans, Metairie, Mandeville Piano and Guitar Recitals

Dear Students and Parents,

Our Spring Concerts and Awards Ceremonies will be held Saturday June 14 at Fuhrmann Auditorium, 317 N. Jefferson St in Covington for the Covington and Mandeville campuses and Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. Martin's Solomon Theatre 5309 Airline Dr. in Metairie for the River Ridge campus. Please keep the entire day open as we will have multiple concerts from 9 AM through 8 PM and we will not have your recital time info until very close to the recital day.

All students are asked to complete and return the participation form available via the link below by 5/5/2014.

Download and e-mail us your participation form at

- All music students will be assigned one solo and may additionally participate in a duet or compose an original piece.
- All instrumental and vocal students (voice, guitar, strings, wind, brass, etc) will require accompanists. The accompanist fee is $30 and will provide students with 3 mini-rehearsals with the accompanist (or their instructor within the lesson) in addition to the performance on the day of the concert.
- Mandatory rehearsals for music students provide the student with additional coaching from the Academy Faculty and will be held Saturdays at all campuses between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on May 24, May 31, and June 7. Students must attend 2 of the 3 rehearsals. A more detailed schedule is forthcoming.
- All dance students that are not performing in the concert must inform the teacher immediately as an exact count of students performing will be necessary for the choreography.
- All dance students will purchase their own costumes. Their teacher will assign costumes at least 1 month before the concert. Cash or check is preferred. All dance students must attend all lessons from now until the concert. If students miss more than two lessons from now until the concert they will not be able to perform. Rehearsal for dance students will be held the week before the recital. Dance students should come in full costume the week of June 16 for dress rehearsal held at The River Ridge School of Music and Dance. Finally, all dance students should arrive at the Solomon Theatre 30 min prior to their performance time to allow for stage blocking.
Many trophies will be awarded at each program. Ask your individual instructor about our categories and how trophies are earned. Trophies and other awards will be awarded based on students' weekly performance and effort at lessons with the exception of the Original Composition trophy and LAAPAFEST awards. Recital Tickets for General Admission may be pre-ordered for $7.00 ea. at the Front Desk or by completing the form below. After May 5, tickets will be available for $10.00 ea. at the Front Desk or at the door the day of the Concert. Two complimentary recital tickets (per family) are available for students and/or parents to pick up at the Front Desk.
I look forward to seeing everyone this June at our main event of the year!

Summer Music & Dance Camp - Now Enrolling

Register Now for Summer Music & Dance Camps at the Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts in New Orleans, LA

It's hard to believe that it ALREADY time to start making your summer activity plans! Summer will be here before you know it and so will our 2014 Summer Music & Dance Camps held this year from July 7-25 at the River Ridge School of Music & Dance and the Mandeville School of Music.

Our Summer Music Camps and Summer Dance Camps provide all campers (ages 5-16, beginning, intermediate, and advanced) with the opportunity to choose and explore up to five of our instrumental, vocal, and performing arts programs.

For Brand New Beginners with Little or No Experience...

Campers are able to explore our various programs and see what program(s) interest them!

Perhaps your child has shown an interest in music, dance, piano, singing, guitar, violin, drums (just to name a few!)? Wherever his/her interest lies, we are happy to provide a formal introduction to the programs of your choice in a structured and fun environment!

At the conclusion of each week of camp, the faculty members write a brief overview of your child's aptitude for each program/instrument which is extremely helpful in determining which program/instrument would be a good match in terms of regular classes and private lessons.

For Experienced Students...

Our camps also provide experienced students with the opportunity to try out other programs of interest or may also serve as an opportunity for concentrated study to accelerate proficiency and to generate motivation... giving new life to the student's instrument or vocal study.

All Students...

At the end of each day of camp, all students come together for performance classes which feature what they have learned that day in camp!

In order to maintain a balanced atmosphere of fun, creativity, and education, only 25 students are admitted each week.

Is your child younger than age 5? For ages birth-4, we recommend our Preschool Music Program which includes signing, singing, music & movement, percussion, and more!

Additional information including programs offered may be found on our summer camp at

Student of the Month - Haleigh Bishop

Mandeville School of Music student, Haleigh Bishop takes violin lessons here at LAAPA! She recently took some time to tell us about a recent mission trip to Malaysia:

Haleigh spent part of this past summer in Malaysia working with underprivileged children at the House of Hope ( The House of Hope is a non-profit organization that helps families in need.

Haleigh was part of a missions team that worked with the children there to lead a vacation bible school program to spend time with the kids and let them know that they matter, they are loved, and people are out there that really do care for them. They spent time sharing God's love and even spent a little time entertaining with her violin - thanks Ms. Vanya for making the violin fun for her!
She said the kids were truly amazing, and it really touched her life as much as the children's. This made life-long memories for Haleigh, and she plans to continue to pursue this work.
(From Haleigh's mom - Tiffany). "I thought I would share to let you know how sometimes it may seem like something small to add music and good teachers, but it grows into a much bigger part of forming some pretty great kids (and soon adults)!"

iPad App Spotlight - Notion

Music Apps Spotlight at LAAPA - Notion

One of the newest apps that we've made available to our music students and faculty here at Laapa is called "Notion". Notion is one of the most refined apps for notating, writing, and playing back your music on the iPad that you'll currently find. From simple lead sheets to full orchestral scores - Notion can handle it all!
The app comes with several preloaded music scores so you can play around with them and see how the app works. Students who love to compose will have a blast with this app. Try it out and consider working on your composition with your teacher at your next lesson!
