Spring Concerts & Awards Ceremonies are Coming!

New Orleans, Metairie, Mandeville Voice Lessons

Dear Students and Parents,

It’s time to begin preparing for our Spring Concerts! Our Spring Concerts and Award Ceremonies will be held June 16-17 at Fuhrmann Auditorium, 317 N. Jefferson St. in Covington for the Covington and Mandeville campuses, June 24, at Victory Fellowship 5708 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA and June 25 at Loyola University - Roussel Hall - 6363 St. Charles Ave. for the River Ridge campus. Due to our continued growth, we are expanding our Spring concerts and holding them over 2 days this year to ensure that we are not rushed and everyone has a great experience! Concert assignments will be announced in late May.

The deadline has now passed to sign up for dance students and the deadline to sign up for music students is 5/1/17. All music students are asked to complete and return the participation forms online.

Sign-up online today at: http://www.laapa.com/music-concert

- All music students will be assigned one solo and may additionally participate in a duet or compose an original piece.
- All instrumental and vocal students (voice, guitar, strings, wind, brass, etc.) will require accompanists. The accompanist fee is $30 and will provide students with 30 minutes of rehearsal time with the accompanist (or their instructor within the lesson) in addition to the performance on the day of the concert.
- Unlike in years past, we will not be holding mandatory rehearsals for music students based on feedback that we received from parents, students, faculty, and staff. As we will have no rehearsals this year (as with our Christmas productions) students should be fully prepared a few weeks prior to the June dates just in case they need to miss a lesson or two. Our goal is for all students to have an awesome experience and performance on stage, so we want to ensure that everyone is very well prepared!
- All dance students that are not performing in the concert should have already informed their teacher.
- All dance student costumes have now been ordered. Dance students must attend all lessons from now until the concert. If students miss more than three lessons from now until the concert they will not be able to perform. Rehearsal for dance students will be held the week before the recital. Dance students should come in full costume the week of June 17-23 for dress rehearsal held at The River Ridge School of Music and Dance. Finally, all dance students should arrive at Roussel Hall as per the schedule which will be issued next month.

Many awards will be presented at each program based on the number of years students have been taking lessons at LAAPA. Every student who is performing will be recognized for his/her time of study and accomplishments. Students who compose and score their own music and/or who participated in LAAPAFEST will additionally be recognized in those award categories. Concert Tickets for General Admission may be pre-ordered when signing up online or at the Front Desk.

Two complimentary concert tickets (per family) are available for students and/or parents to pick up at the Front Desk.

We look forward to seeing everyone this June at our main event of the year!

- Ryan Cullen, Director

Music & Dance Artwork

You can now browse and purchase the beautiful Music and Dance artwork of local artist Michaela Howell in the LAAPA Store. Just goto http://store.laapa.com/art/. She is currently offering 10% off, so be sure to take a look soon!
Local artist, Michaela Howell has graciously decorated our schools with her music and dance themed artwork (just one example of which is pictured right). All of these pieces may be purchased for your home or as a gift! Please inquire at the front desk.
With down home country humble beginnings Michaela has always been very resourceful. She cuts, sands, primes, paints, and in some cases stains her abstract versions of the wooden instruments, creating very hands-on works of art. This resourcefulness has “Played” out very nicely in her most current work. Though the recycling of varying musical instrument components including guitar strings, violin knobs, music sheets featuring the instrument showcased, Michaela portrays a ‘current’ sense of style combined with a very vivid color pallet, creating a symphony for the senses!

Mandeville School of Music - Then and Now (NEW CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENT!)

New Orleans, Metairie, Mandeville Voice Lessons

LAAPA’s Mandeville School of Music will soon have a brand new home this Fall!

A brief history of the Mandeville School of Music: Wanda Cullen, Assistant Director, opened the first Mandeville campus in the early 1990’s on North Causeway Blvd where we had one studio! We later moved two additional times first in an office complex near the Beau Rivage subdivision (where current Mandeville School of Music Office Manager, Ms. Diane, began taking saxophone lessons and then again when we expanded into a larger facility with 4 studios in the late 90’s on Hwy 22 in Beacham Shopping Center.

While we will miss our Old Mandeville campus and the surrounding neighborhood which has been our home since early 2004, our student population has nearly tripled since opening our doors there. With an aging building needing constant repairs, constant risk of flooding, and the lack of sufficient parking, we felt it was time to take the next step to better serve our Mandeville students.

We have been looking for a new campus on and off for the past several years, but stepped up the search last Spring when additional problems with the current building were the last straw. We finally signed a lease on the new space this past month!

While many of our previous campuses have been slightly modified to fit our needs with many compromises, the new space is mostly an open shell so we have been able to design and customize it much like we were able to in 2010 with our River Ridge campus that now provides instruction to 675 students each week.

The new campus will feature 10 teaching studios, a dance studio, a preschool and ensemble studio, a recording and production studio where students can create professional quality audio and video demos, plenty of comfortable waiting space, and lots of parking! Construction begins in April with current Covington School of Music parent, Mr. Greg Scarpelli and his firm - Scarpelli Construction. We will be posting construction updates to our Facebook page, so be sure to stay tuned for the progress!

A HUGE welcome to our newest students who began lessons or added programs in March!

We are so happy that you’ve chosen to study at LAAPA.
We know you will do great things this year!
