The Most Important Part of Music & Dance Lessons
Dear Parents and Students - Happy New Year!
As we begin this New Year, I wanted to take a moment to congratulate and thank all of our students, parents, faculty, and staff once again for 13 outstanding Christmas Performances. The programs were all incredibly diverse! In addition to the solo performances by our music students (piano, voice, violin, guitar, drums, bass, clarinet, flute, trumpet, saxophone, and more!), we also had our preschool music classes perform as well as so many exciting duet, trio, quartet, and ensemble performances. Our dance students who participated in the production of “The Night Before Christmas” were fantastic!
I wanted to share a brief summary from a video that I sent to our faculty following our concerts which I feel highlights our mission beyond providing the best music and dance training here in New Orleans: “Faculty - thank all of you so much for everything and just being there for your students and taking the time to care about them and their success. Whether or not they had an incredible performance or hit a few clunkers is not always the most important thing. Music and Dance are more important today than ever before because of the cognitive, physical, creative, and emotional outlets that they provide in a tumultous world! What really matters is how they have grown as people as the result of their training and having you in their lives. What have they gained and how are they stronger?...”
Also, I just wanted to thank all who were able to support the Teresian Mission during our concerts. Not only did we fill over 80 contractor bags full of gifts, but we also raised over $4,000 in cash donations! Sisters Dolores, Angelus and all of the Teresian sisters were so grateful and excited for all the families that they will be able to minister to this year because of your generosity and support! The sisters attended a few of our concerts and were able to give their thanks in person - we have provided a video of their talk on both our Facebook and Youtube Channels so please check them out when you can!
Now that the new year is here, it’s time to put down the eggnog and get back to music and dance lessons! It’s been a bit too quiet here over the break and we can’t wait to see our students again!

You can now browse and purchase the beautiful Music and Dance artwork of local artist Michaela Howell in the LAAPA Store. Just goto http://store.laapa.com/art/
. She is currently offering 10% off, so be sure to take a look soon!
Local artist, Michaela Howell has graciously decorated our schools with her music and dance themed artwork (just one example of which is pictured right). All of these pieces may be purchased for your home or as a gift! Please inquire at the front desk.
With down home country humble beginnings Michaela has always been very resourceful. She cuts, sands, primes, paints, and in some cases stains her abstract versions of the wooden instruments, creating very hands-on works of art. This resourcefulness has “Played” out very nicely in her most current work. Though the recycling of varying musical instrument components including guitar strings, violin knobs, music sheets featuring the instrument showcased, Michaela portrays a ‘current’ sense of style combined with a very vivid color pallet, creating a symphony for the senses!
