Need Something Fun & Creative to Do this Summer?
Dear Parents and Students,
With the mild temperatures here in Southeast Louisiana and snowfall in various parts of the country, it’s hard to believe Summer is almost here! Summer is our busiest season of all with recitals, camps, and of course new students eager to get started in music and dance lessons!
Congrats to our graduating seniors! We are pleased to announce a record number of senior recitals this year which have been scheduled for Sunday, April 29th at 2PM and Sunday, May 6th at 2PM at the Mandeville campus and Saturday, April 28th at 2PM at the River Ridge campus.
We are also bursting with excitement in anticipation of our 2018 Spring Music & Dance Recitals. See last month’s newsletter for more info!
As I mentioned, Summer is a popular time for new students to get started in music and dance lessons here at LAAPA! Ah, you know what I mean parents - now that the kids have been liberated from the confines of their scholastic routines, they’ve got extra time on their hands - and energy! Now that school is out, do your kids follow you around the house each day asking you, “What can I do?”, “What can I do now?”, “I’m bored.”? Are they spending WAY too much time playing video games or staring at Computer/TV screens? Summer is a perfect time to BEAT THE DIGITAL ADDICTION by playing music, dancing, or singing! Whether you’re interested in our July summer camps or weekly private lessons - we have a program for you!
If your kids enjoy spontaneously bursting out into song and dance - consider our vocal, dance, and/or musical theatre programs!
Do you wake up each morning to the joyful sounds of your son or daughter endlessly pounding away at random notes on the piano? Let us show them how to make beautiful music in your home this summer! Is your child driving you crazy beating on the kitchen pots and pans? How about drum lessons instead? Guaranteed to put all of that energy to good use! We can also recommend some excellent silent drum sets like we have at our schools for a peaceful and happy home!
Already taking a program with LAAPA? The summer is an excellent time to add a program or increase your weekly lesson time. And don’t forget that this July we will be holding three exciting weeks of summer music and dance camps held at our Mandeville School of Music & Dance and River Ridge School of Music & Dance. These camps are especially wonderful for exploring new programs of interest for beginning and current students.
Speaking of our summer camps, each year I often find myself thinking back to some of our first camps when I was a student. We had a blast getting to play all the instruments, doing ensembles, and Friday concerts where parents came to see us perform. That was all great, but for some reason what I remember the most is red koolaid and cookies from snack time. Ah..., good times.
Whatever you do this summer - don’t just sit around - be creative and enjoy doing something new and fun! I hope to see everyone this June at our main events of the year.

Don't Lose Your Teacher this Fall!
Each Summer we are asked numerous questions such as “Do Lessons Stop,” “Can I keep my same teacher in the Fall and time if I stop for the summer,” etc.
We are a year round school and as such, hundreds of new students begin lessons with us between May-July; therefore, we are unable to hold lesson times. We do have a number alternatives to giving up your lessons/teacher for the summer such as online lessons and Makeup Workshops. Please inquire at the front desk for more info!
The following teachers are at or very close to capacity with their scheduling availability during the most popular lesson times.
To learn more about summer scheduling options, call us at (985) 231-0875 or email@example.com!

You can now browse and purchase the beautiful Music and Dance artwork of local artist Michaela Howell in the LAAPA Store. Just goto http://store.laapa.com/art/
. She is currently offering 10% off, so be sure to take a look soon!
Local artist, Michaela Howell has graciously decorated our schools with her music and dance themed artwork (just one example of which is pictured right). All of these pieces may be purchased for your home or as a gift! Please inquire at the front desk.
With down home country humble beginnings Michaela has always been very resourceful. She cuts, sands, primes, paints, and in some cases stains her abstract versions of the wooden instruments, creating very hands-on works of art. This resourcefulness has “Played” out very nicely in her most current work. Though the recycling of varying musical instrument components including guitar strings, violin knobs, music sheets featuring the instrument showcased, Michaela portrays a ‘current’ sense of style combined with a very vivid color pallet, creating a symphony for the senses!
