Bogue Falaya Wayside Park

Bogue Falaya Wayside Park

‍Located at 213 Park Dr, Covington, LA 70433, Bogue Falaya Wayside Park is an ideal place for everyone from families wanting to spend a day together to single people hoping for a quiet getaway. The park sports a full children's playground, pavilion, as well as a newly installed boat launch. The views of the nearby river are breathtaking, and you can walk along the river banks for quite a ways on the property. Love fishing? Check this out!

The park's pavilion has been used for many community events throughout the years, and it is a popular gathering place for residents and visitors. Throughout the year, you'll find a variety of community events held at the park including town fairs, concerts, talent shows, and philharmonic concerts. The park is completely ADA-compliant, so it's truly a place for the entire community to kick back, relax, and enjoy themselves. Plenty of picnic tables and restrooms are nearby, and a few public grills are additionally available, although you should probably bring a few tools to clean them before you start grilling. Another local favorite.

Each summer, the park is a popular destination with Covington families for activities such as tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. When travelling down the river, you're also sure to spot a rope swing or two. Many visitors enjoy pulling their vessel off to the bank, shimmying up the tree to the rope and launching themselves into the comforting murky brown waters.

The original pavilion at the park was built in 1907, but sadly it was destroyed in 1915 by a storm. It was fortunately rebuilt later in the same year! The landmark itself consists of a free-standing wood structure that serves as the center of the park. It is a single-story building with five wooden stairs leading up to an inset doorway. Inside the pavilion, visitors will find a large square room with benches all around.

Sitting on thirteen acres near the banks of the Bogue-Falaya River in Covington, Louisiana, the park opened to the public on July 1, 1909. The park's sand is mostly untouched, but there are a few areas with small sculptures or stone benches. A new boardwalk, ADA-accessible kayak and canoe launch and an improved playground are among the planned improvements for the park. The historic pavilion will also be repaired. Bogue Falaya Park is free for all to enjoy and is open Monday-Sunday from 7AM to 7PM.
