Music Lessons for Homeschoolers (ages 4-up)

Homeschool students may choose to enroll in any private music program that is age appropriate. We also offer a Homeschool Band/Ensemble each Fall. At LAAPA, the Academy Directors understand the scheduling needs of homeschoolers (having two children currently being homeschooled on the Northshore). Classes are available as early in the day as 1:00 PM!
Private Music Lessons for Homeschoolers:
Students may choose from either a 30, 45, or 60 minute weekly private lesson in the program of his/her choice. All of the various program offered (as well as appropriate ages for beginning them) may be found in the right hand column.
Students and parents who are just getting started in music lessons should additionally check out the following pages:

Homeschool Band/Orchestra Program:
Our homeschool orchestra program at Laapa provides students ages 8 and up with the opportunity to learn and perform weekly with other musicians.
The instrumentation will consist of the woodwind, brass, string, & percussion families.
Students who have previous music experience such as piano, guitar, etc will find that much of their knowledge will transfer! Brand new beginning music students will be right at home as well since the orchestra method books used (most often the Essential Elements series) will be teaching you each lesson on an as needed basis so that you know enough to successfully perform each piece of music with the full ensemble.
When selecting an instrument, students should consider not only his/her interest, but also his/her physical size. Instruments such as the trombone require a long enough arm to reach all the way out to 7th position. Instruments such as tenor sax, baritone sax, and tuba are fairly heavy! Researching instruments on YouTube is a great way to see and listen to various instruments of the brass, woodwind, and percussion families to help you choose the best one for you.
The most popular instruments that beginning students tend to choose are the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, xylophone. Beginners should generally avoid double reeded instruments such as the oboe and english horn.
Homeschool orchestra classes are year round, scheduled as mentioned above. Tuition is $68/month. Annual Membership is $40. Our preferred instrument vendor is Slidell Music Company. They may be reached at 1563 Gause Blvd, Slidell, LA 70458 (985) 643-3373. The orchestra will perform at our December and June concerts.
